HEREDITAS MAGAZINE
            ABOUT US

Hereditas was founded on September 11, 2004 as a joint project between Regina Coeli Academy and WriteGuide.com.  Its purpose, in addition to pursuing the mission described in our Mission Statement, is to provide an outlet for Catholic writers, whose voices are all but absent  in today's literary magazines.  Though there are several large-scale Catholic periodicals available to the general public, none of them maintain (or, to their credit, claim to maintain) a truly literary focus.  Hereditas aims to provide just that: a Catholic periodical that publishes an abundance of creative and personal works of literature, as opposed to an abundance of papers that explore current events and various socio-political and ecclesiastical issues.  We publish fiction, poetry, drama, critical analysis, book and film reviews, personal essays, and translations, all from a Catholic perspective. Our authors include students, parents, teachers, members of the clergy, consecrated religious, as well as professional writers.

We therefore hope that when you read through Hereditas you will encounter not necessarily "the cutting edge of Catholic contemporary thought," but rather the tradition and heritage that defines us as Catholic families -- a heritage that makes us who we are, and continues to form us as we hand it on to future generations.  Our heritage is not one that has been preserved in moth balls and tucked in the back of someone's closet.  Nor is it rigid and clunky like some old suit of armor standing rusted in a corner.  Rather, our heritage as Catholics is one that has been woven in Love and forged in Truth.  It is hard as steel and yet as comforting as a receiving blanket. Because it has formed us, we seek to contribute to it, and to preserve and express the Divine Truth within it.

In October, 2005, we were joined by Colleen Drippe', a successful Catholic novelist. Colleen, a former contributor to Hereditas is now our editor.

Our first two editions were all online, but we have successfully shipped hard copy since Thanksgiving, 2005. We continue to provide samples from each issue here on our website.
